Mindfulness is understood to mean that the present moment should be consciously perceived. If your attention moves away from the present moment, it should always be brought back to the here and now. All bodily sensations, thoughts and feelings are perceived without judgement or evaluation. Mindfulness exercises have positive effects, e.g. on stress, anxiety and depression.
As part of ACT therapy, mindfulness exercises are used to strengthen acceptance of one's own feelings, including negative ones, and not to repress them.
